Alone in the Dark
Alone in the Dark was directed by Frédérick Raynal, and published by Infogrames in 1992 for MS-DOS. Sweet Home is generally considered to be the first survival horror game, but Alone in the Dark was perhaps the first 3D survival horror game. It played a big part in establishing the genre and its conventions. Its use of 3D with fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds directly influenced Resident Evil, which was originally set to be more like Sweet Home. I’ve been a fan of survival horror since I first played Silent Hill 2 in 2001, so I thought it was time I checked this one out.
