King’s Quest I Remake
In the early 1990s, Sierra released remakes of several of their earlier games, using their new SCI engine that was first used for King’s Quest IV. SCI allowed for graphics at twice the resolution of their earlier AGI engine, enhanced sound with support for music cards like the Roland MT-32, and improved animation. These remakes, starting with King’s Quest I: Quest for the Crown in 1990, preserved the story and gameplay of the originals, with some relatively minor adjustments.
- This remake is not available for purchase online, but it is included in some “King’s Quest Collection” releases, which are easy to find and inexpensive.

Complete Playthrough
I started streaming Kings Quest 1 over a year ago, in November. After 170 hours, I’ve played every Sierra King’s Quest game, from Apple II to PlayStation 4. I’ve drawn many maps and filled an entire notebook with notes. Today I’m finishing with Sierra’s 1990 remake of the original King’s Quest. Let’s all enjoy a sparkly King Graham together.
