The X-Files Game
The aptly named The X-Files Game is a point-and-click FMV game developed by HyperBole Studios. It was released in 1998 for Macintosh and Windows, then for PlayStation the following year. It was directed by Greg Roach, based on a story by Chris Carter (creator of the show) and Frank Spotnitz (a writer for the show). You play as FBI agent Craig Willmore, a character created for the game, investigating the disappearance of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. So while David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson both appear in the game, they aren’t on screen most of the time.
I happened to find an inexpensive, sealed copy of the game on eBay, so I thought, why not buy it and open it up on stream. It’s a tricky game to get running these days, but worth the effort. I love the use of an Apple Newton as a prominent part of the game’s interface.
