Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill
Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill was developed by HeR Interactive and released in 1998 for Windows. This was the first in a long series of games that is still ongoing.
Nancy takes a semester off from school to visit her Aunt Eloise in Florida. A student there is murdered, and the principal asks Nancy to go under cover and investigate. The game’s packaging encourages you to “expose the deception that a death should have silenced.” It also warns you that this game is for “girls who aren’t afraid of a mouse.”
While the series is well loved, it’s apparent that Her Interactive was still figuring out what makes a great Nancy Drew game with this initial entry. Still, I found it charming overall, and I enjoyed the 2D animated characters combined with pre-rendered 3D backgrounds.

Part 1
I’m starting Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill, the first Nancy Drew game ever made, by Her Interactive. I’ll do my best to “expose the deception that a death should have silenced!” This game is for “girls who aren’t afraid of a mouse,” which is a great tagline.
